Overview
In Islamabad, Pakistan, the National Defence University, also known as NDU, is a publicly sponsored military school devoted to the study and research of military science, geo-strategy, and international relations. It was established in 1970 as the staff college and was given university status in 2007. The Education Commission and the Defence Ministry jointly support the institution. The NDU provides joint military leadership of the Pakistani military with in-depth and important training in establishing and developing the defence strategy as well as national security awareness.

Is there a university run by the army in Pakistan?
On 14th August 1995, the University was shifted to its present premises at the foothills of Margallas in Sector E-9, Islamabad. The University has the distinction of training about 200 foreign participants, entire senior leadership of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and a large number of senior bureaucrats.
